17-year-old charged after leading police on chase on Woodward

A 17-year-old Chesterfield, Macomb County resident has been charged after fleeing from Royal Oak Police with a 19-year-old female passenger late Saturday evening.

On April 20, 2024, at around 7:35 p.m., an officer monitoring cruising activities on Woodward Avenue in the area of Thirteen Mile Road observed a white Chrysler 300 driving recklessly, police said.

The officer activated his lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver disregarded the signal to pull over and fled away from the officer at a high rate of speed.

After changing directions several times along Woodward Avenue, the vehicle crossed Fourteen Mile Road into Birmingham. Near Lincoln Street, an officer from the Birmingham Police Department deployed a stop sticks, causing both passenger side tires to start deflating, according to officials.

The driver was eventually taken into custody near Normandy and Woodward.

The juvenile driver is charged with 3rd Degree Fleeing and Eluding Police, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and is being held at Oakland County Children’s Village.
