A 26-year-old man is facing felony charges after prosecutors say he assaulted and-threatened to end the life of a woman inside her apartment near Wayne State University.
Joshua Claiborne was arraigned on July 25 in the 36th District Court and charged with two counts of Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder.
The attack happened on July 19 inside an apartment located at Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments.
The victim told authorities that Claiborne knocked on her door and asked to use her bathroom. Once inside, things took a turn. The suspect allegedly choked the victim and allegedly said he was going to kill and-rape her while implying he had a knife, prosecutors said during the arraignment.
After the initial attack, Claiborne allegedly pushed the woman into her bathroom and wrapped a shower curtain around her head, cutting off her ability to breathe, according to officials.
The female victim fought back and got him off. Claiborne wouldn’t allow her to leave or call for help, but eventually, she convinced him to leave the apartment. The suspect has no ties to WSU, police said.
A judge set Claiborne’s bond at $100,000 cash or surety.
