Warren Police Officers Save Man From Jumping From I-696 Overpass

Officers with the Warren Police Department stepped in to save a man from attempting to jump onto I-696 on Easter Sunday.

It happened around 6:55 p.m. on April 20, 2025, when several 911 calls came in about a man climbing the safety barrier on the Groesbeck overpass above I-696. Witnesses said it looked like he was getting ready to jump onto the freeway below.

Officers rushed to the scene and found a 32-year-old Warren man perched on top of the fence. Police immediately began talking to him, using calm communication and de-escalation tactics to try and keep him from jumping.

While the conversation continued, other officers quietly moved into position. When the man began sliding down toward the edge, officers acted quickly, grabbing and pulling him back to safety.

He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
