Every October, the charming village of Romeo, Michigan, transforms into a Halloween wonderland thanks to Terror on Tillson Street! A beloved community tradition celebrating its annual spooky fun. Stretching across two and a half blocks, this festive display brings together neighbors, families, and visitors from all over Michigan to experience Halloween like never before.
Running Friday through Sunday from dusk until 11 p.m. in October, Terror on Tillson Street offers a free, family-friendly atmosphere filled with creativity, community pride, and just the right amount of fright. The Romeo Police Department blocks off the street to ensure a safe walking path for visitors, while local vendors serve hot cider, cocoa, and donuts to add a warm touch.
Every home along Tillson is transformed into a masterpiece. From clown-themed houses to fancily dressed skeletons, these haunted scenes fill every corner with character. But what makes this event even more special is its purpose: all merchandise proceeds benefit local students, veterans, and cancer research.
This year’s commemorative T-shirt design features original artwork by Victoria Lee, one of the long-time residents who helped shape Tillson Street’s Halloween legacy. On their official website, Lee shared her heartwarming story behind the tradition:
“Many years ago, when I was small, my Mom used to decorate special for Halloween because it was my birthday, and with all the other activities going on, she wanted to make it a little more special for me. Years later, when my children were small, I started decorating special for them… I’ve been on Tillson Street for 35+ years. Back then, there weren’t many young ones on the street. So when I decorated, most of the neighbors thought I was off my rocker. As the years passed, more and more houses started putting out a few more decorations. Younger families moved in, and even more decorations went up. About 15 years ago, when my boys were out of the trick-or-treating age, they still wanted to stay involved. So they started ‘Bulldog Security’… they invited their friends to help patrol the street on Halloween against candy thieves and any type of shenanigans that might go on during this fun night.”
The spirit of family and community runs deep here! On October 31st from 6–8 p.m., children will flood the street for an unforgettable night of trick-or-treating.
