Detroit police have released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the city’s west side in December.
The incident occurred on Dec. 20 on Southfield Service Drive and Fenkell in #Detroit.
Officer observed a vehicle that did not use a turning signal while turning, and that is when they conducted a traffic stop.
The driver had no license, so the officer tried to take him out of the car. A struggle ensued, and the officer was dragged about 20 feet.
The officer’s partner attempted to use his taser, but it didn’t work. The driver then dragged the officer again, and that is when shots were fired.
The driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A ghost gun was located inside, police said.
In November, the Detroit Police Department launched a new policy to that requires them to release footage 45 days after an incident where officers used force in an effort to be more transparent. Watch parts of the footage above.
