A Troy woman was scammed out of $100,000 through a person she met on social media.
The victim told police she was contacted on Instagram by a subject who claimed he could help her consolidate her debt and get a new mortgage.
The victim provided him with her bank account information and social security number.
The subject withdrew $100,000 from her accounts.
She originally thought he was withdrawing money for his financial services, but none of the money actually went towards the new mortgage or consolidation.
The victim has never met the subject in person and does not know what he did with the money.
