Trenton Channel power plant imploded

Did you hear that loud boom downriver? DTE this morning imploded its abandoned boiler house at the Trenton Channel Power Plant.

In early June 2024, DTE announced that it is constructing a new battery energy storage center at the site of its retired Trenton Channel Power Plant.

The Trenton Channel Energy Center will be the largest standalone battery energy storage project in the Great Lakes region when it comes online in 2026, according to DTE.

It will be able to store 880 megawatt hours of energy each cycle, which is enough to power nearly 40,000 homes. 📸: Elba-Mar Boat Club
