Thieves Stealing A/C Units Overnight Across Metro Detroit

A new warning has been issued by police after a surge in A/C condenser thefts throughout metro Detroit.

Police say thieves are cutting power and refrigerant lines before stealing the A/C condenser units, which are likely being sold on the street for profit.

Detectives from multiple departments are now working together to investigate the pattern of thefts.

Corner houses appear to be hit more often, likely because of easier access. Harper Woods was the latest community that was targeted.

Residents are being urged to stay alert and report suspicious people or vehicles, especially after midnight. Police suggest locking the junction box near the A/C unit, which holds the condenser fuse, as a possible deterrent.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK UP.
