“They Got the Wrong House”: 57-Year-Old Detroit Man Shot in Case of Mistaken Identity

A 57-year-old Detroit man says he nearly died after being shot inside his home in what he believes was a case of mistaken identity.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, near Greenfield and 7 Mile, as he was sitting on his couch after a long day at work.

Danny, a well-known construction worker in the area, had just gotten home and was trying to relax when bullets suddenly flew through his window. One struck him in the chest, pierced his lung, and is now lodged in his back. Doctors told him it’s too risky to remove the bullet, so it will remain in place.

He spent four days in the hospital, including two days on life support. Danny says he collapsed and thought he was going to die.

Detroit police say they responded to a ShotSpotter alert just before 11 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot-wound. Investigators say, before the shooting, a group of females allegedly tried to break into the home, yelling that “someone was going to pay” for the death of a female family member.

Police are now working to identify those individuals and determine if the earlier confrontation is connected to the shooting.

Danny says he had no involvement in whatever they were referring to and doesn’t know the people involved. He lives alone with his dog & believes they had the wrong house.

He’s lived in the neighborhood for six years and keeps to himself. He says he’s never had issues with anyone and often avoids the arguments that happen daily near the nearby park.

Since the shooting, Danny says he’s been living in fear. He’s afraid to sit in his living room and feels like he’s constantly being watched. Cars often park outside his house, and people stare at him as he comes and goes.

Danny says he plans to leave too, adding that every time he sees the bullet hole in the wall, he remembers the moment he thought his life was over.

He hopes someone comes forward with information and is pleading for the violence in Detroit to stop. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit police or Crime Stoppers.
