Tenants living at the Jefferson, a high rise apartment building at 9000 E Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, say they’ve been without air conditioning for days as a heat wave moves through.
According to residents, the building has been dealing with A/C issues since early June, and management has not provided clear updates or solutions.
“The Jefferson building has been out of air conditioning. During the intense heat wave residents have been expected to live in inhumane conditions, with no help from management. We have no answers as to when it will be turned on with apartments reaching excruciating temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s,” said one resident who lives there.
Tenants also claim that requests for help have been ignored.
One resident shared a receipt showing they bought their own portable unit out-of-pocket.
Management sent building-wide emails over the past two weeks saying they are waiting on parts and that an HVAC contractor, is scheduled to begin repairs today.
As of now, the tenants say they still have no A/C.
