Teen fatally shot in Taylor, police investigating

Police are investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old dead Saturday night in Taylor.

It happened around 9:00 p.m. on the block of Pine, near Telegraph and Eureka. Friends say the teen was at a party when an altercation broke out, leading to the shooting.

Taylor Police have not yet confirmed the victim’s identity or any details about what led up to the shooting.

In a statement, the department said officers responded quickly and that the investigation remains ongoing.

Ecorse Public Schools have released the following statement:

“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news of the loss of one of our students, Trey Kimber. Trey recently graduated from 8th grade here at Grandport Academy and was enrolled in the Rising 9th Grade Summer Discovery Program, preparing for his next chapter at Ecorse High School. His Summer Discovery ELA teacher had already recommended him for 9th Grade Honors English, a reflection of his promise and potential. Trey was a bright, kind, and spirited young person who touched the lives of many. His passing is a profound loss to our school community, and we know that many students, staff, and families will be deeply affected. In this time of grief, we are committed to supporting our students and staff as we process this tragedy together. Grief counselors and support personnel will be available at Grandport Academy starting tomorrow to provide a safe space for students to talk, share, and receive emotional support. Please encourage your child to take advantage of these resources if they are in need. We ask that you keep Trey’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We will share additional information about ways to honor his memory as it becomes available. If you notice that your child is struggling or showing signs of distress, please do not hesitate to reach out to us or connect with our counseling team. No suspects are in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call the Taylor Police Department at (734) 287-661.
