Teen critically injured after being shot by friend released from jail on home pass

Detroit police are investigating after a 17-year-old was critically injured in a shooting on the city’s east side.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Sunday inside a home on Manning Street, near East State Fair and Gratiot.

The teen was with his friend in a house when an argument broke out. During the argument, the 17-year-old was shot multiple times, including in the chest.

The suspect was recently released from juvenile detention on a home pass — a program meant to help reintegrate incarcerated juveniles back into society. He had been previously incarcerated on a carjacking charge.

The victim remains in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
