Police are working to resolve a barricaded situation in Southfield.
On Friday, at approximately 1:00 pm, the Southfield Police Department was responded to the French Quarter Apartments in the area of 8 Mile Rd and Telegraph at the request of a family needing assistance in committing a family member for a mental health crisis, police said.
Upon arrival, the male subject ran to a back room and barricaded himself, refusing to communicate with family or officers. Officers are continuing to attempt contact and are treating the incident as a barricaded individual.
The Southfield SWAT team and Negotiator Unit are on scene. It is unknown if the subject is in possession of any weapons.
The Southfield Police Department is requesting that people stay out of the area until this matter is resolved.
UPDATE: The barricaded situation has ended peacefully.
