A 72-year-old man is dead, and his wife was injured following a robbery at their home in Rochester Hills on Friday, police say.
The incident occurred at a residence on Newcastle Drive, near Adams and Dutton.
According to police, two men posing as DTE Energy workers came to the home, claiming there was a gas leak and that they needed to enter the house. The suspects visited the home last night but were denied and returned again this morning.
When the men arrived today, they forced their way inside, fatally shooting the man in the basement. They then duct taped up his wife, but she managed to escape and called 911, authorities said in a news presser.
We are told that the male victim is the owner of a jewelry shop. It’s unknown if anything in the house was taken.
The suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
