Stricter Tailgating Rules Announced at Eastern Market for Lions Fans After Fatal Shooting

Ahead of the Detroit Lions’ home game on Sunday, October 27, Eastern Market has introduced updated tailgating rules and restrictions to ensure the safety of fans and attendees.

These new rules come in response to a fatal shooting near Shed 6 that left two dead last month.

Here’s a breakdown of the new tailgating rules and restrictions, according to the Eastern Market:

  • Parking & Entrance
  • • Tailgating tickets must be purchased online in advance at easternmarket.org, and attendees must present their Eventbrite tickets for scanning to receive a parking hang tag.
  • First-come, first-served parking: there is no reserved parking within the tailgating areas. Guests wanting to park next to others must arrive at the lot at the same time.
  • No “in and out” privileges: Once parked, vehicles cannot leave and return.
  • Overnight parking is prohibited: All vehicles must leave the lot within 60 minutes after the game or risk being towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Tailgating is only allowed in designated lots: Tailgating on public streets, sidewalks, or private property is prohibited.

Tailgate Setup
• Tailgaters must keep their setup within the space they’ve purchased. Larger tents, beyond 10×10, are not allowed.
• Electricity is limited, and only small portable generators (600W or less) are permitted.

Formal Dj not allowed

Cooking Restrictions
• Only State-approved gas/propane grills with fuel valve shut-offs and self-contained charcoal grills are allowed. Open flames or wood fires are strictly prohibited.
• Cooking must be for personal consumption only; the sale of food is prohibited.

Drinks & Restrictions
• All drinks must remain within the tailgating areas, and underage drinking is strictly prohibited.

  • No weapons
