Marry Kassa, a Southfield senior, has earned $4.7 million in college scholarships and will attend Yale University on a full-ride scholarship, Southfield Public Schools announced. She was accepted into five Ivy League schools.
Marry, the daughter of immigrants and a first-generation college student, plans to study Computer Science and hopes to become a Machine Learning Engineer. She was accepted into five Ivy League schools — Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, and Cornell — along with other top universities across the country.
Among her many accomplishments, Marry received the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which includes a $40,000 award and a guaranteed paid internship with Amazon after her first year in college.
Marry began applying for scholarships as early as her sophomore year, ramping up her efforts by the end of junior year. Her hard work, self-advocacy, and determination helped her overcome barriers and seize opportunities.
“No matter what your environmental circumstances are, still push yourself to the best of your ability! Rather than feeling discouraged by the lack of resources I had at times, I took that as motivation to do more. Thanks to that mindset, I’m able to make my dreams a reality and attain what felt impossible,” Marry Kassa said.
