Southfield Freeway closed due to pedestrian crash

A man was fatally struck while on the Southfield freeway in Detroit on Tuesday.

The incident happened in the SB lanes of Southfield Freeway at Joy Road at around noon.

Detroit Police officers were responding to an unrelated incident when they were flagged down.

Officers received information that there was a suspicious male in the area topside, authorities said. As the patrol unit turned around to make contact with the male, he jumped over the Freeway fence onto the west side of the freeway southbound.

He was then struck by a semi in the center lane near Joy Rd, police said.

The 44-year-old Detroit man passed away after being transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
