A 23-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with the fatal assault of his father during a confrontation inside their home.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, LeMar Manassa Jr. has been charged with manslaughter in the death of his father, 53-year-old LeMar Manassa Sr. Authorities say the two were living together at the time of the incident.

On Saturday, March 22, at around 7:24 p.m., Detroit police were called to a home in the 5700 block of University Place, near Chandler Park & I-94, for a report of an unknown problem.

When officers arrived, they found Manassa Sr. unresponsive in the kitchen. Medics later pronounced him dead at the scene.

Prosecutors say a verbal argument between the two escalated, leading Manassa Jr. to tackle & punch his father multiple times in the head, resulting in his death.

Manassa Jr. was arraigned Monday morning in 36th District Court and was given a $500,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest.
