A 12-year-old Pontiac boy is back in custody after being arrested for stealing multiple vehicles — for the second time in just one month.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was arrested at his home Tuesday by the Oakland County Auto Theft Task Force. He appeared in court at Oakland County Children’s Village, where a referee adjourned his hearing until Wednesday afternoon. He remains in custody.
“This young man is on a very bad path, attempting to live his own grand theft auto,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “Hopefully intervention by the courts will send him on a better life path as well as stopping the constant thefts from these businesses.”
Authorities say the 12-year-old is accused of stealing three Chevrolet Silverado trucks, two with trailers, from a lawn care business in Waterford Township on Sunday. The vehicles and trailers, worth about $90,000, were recovered.
Just a month ago, the same boy was arrested for stealing seven vehicles from a Pontiac business. At that time, he was caught carrying a license plate and admitted to selling at least one of the stolen vehicles for $30.
A second suspect — a 13-year-old Pontiac boy — was also arrested in the recent Waterford thefts. Detectives say his mother saw a video of the break-in on Facebook, recognized her son, and contacted police.
The 13-year-old is charged with unlawfully driving away a vehicle and malicious destruction of property under $200. He will remain at Children’s Village until his next hearing on August 11.
