Police are warning residents to be on alert after a skimming device and small camera were discovered at an MSU Federal Credit Union ATM in Berkley.
According to the Berkley Department of Public Safety, officers were called to the branch on October 12, 2025, after the bank’s security team reported an alarm activation. When security personnel checked the exterior drive-thru ATM, they found a “camera bar” used to record PIN numbers and a skimming device placed inside the card slot.
Investigators believe the equipment was installed overnight and may be tied to similar incidents at other MSU Federal Credit Union locations across Oakland County. Detectives are working with bank officials to determine if any customer information was compromised, though early findings suggest the device was active only for a few hours and likely did not capture any data.
BDPS is urging residents to stay cautious when using outdoor ATMs, reminding the public that criminals continue to evolve their tactics to steal personal and financial information.
Safety Tips:
Inspect ATMs for unusual attachments or signs of tampering. Cover your PIN pad while entering your code. Report anything suspicious to local police immediately.
Authorities released sample photos showing the recovered “camera bar” and skimmer device.
Anyone who notices suspicious devices or activity at a bank ATM is asked to contact their local police department.
