Police chase ends with carjacking suspect attempting to light car on fire on Southfield freeway

Two people are in custody after a carjacking suspect led police on a high-speed chase this afternoon.

The initial carjacking happened around 11:00 p.m. on July 15 near Warren and Memorial in Detroit.

Detroit Police attempted to stop the car in Allen Park and later initiated a pursuit. The chase ended on the Southfield Freeway near Michigan Avenue.

During the pursuit, the vehicle lost a tire. After coming to a stop, the male suspect attempted to set the car on fire while still inside.

Officers moved in and took both a male & female suspect into custody. The male suspect was tased during the arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
