Five women were arrested after allegedly stealing $125,000 from Lululemon’s across metro Detroit.
The Michigan State Police Fraud Investigation Section and Attorney General Investigators received a tip of a crime ring that conducted several retail thefts from Lululemon stores in the Metro Detroit area.
This afternoon, Detective Troopers and Michigan Attorney General Special Agents were conducting surveillance at a Lululemon store on Woodward in downtown Detroit when they observed several individuals enter the location, police said.
The surveillance team identified the individuals as suspects from prior thefts they had received the tip on.
A short time later, the suspects were observed leaving the store carrying a large quantity of clothing.
Five female suspects were taken into custody, and approximately $13,000 of stolen clothing was recovered. It is believed this group is responsible for multiple other retail frauds totaling over $125,000 of loss to Lululemon, police said.
“This investigation is ongoing. While many may think retail fraud as a “lower level” crime, these large scale retail thefts put both the public and store employees in danger as well increasing the price at the register for consumers,” F/Lt Mike Shaw stated.
