Michigan lawmakers just moved forward with new bills aimed at protecting renters.
The proposed laws would require landlords to fix dangerous conditions within 48 hours of being notified, or tenants could withhold rent or pay for repairs and deduct the cost.
Another bill would make landlords give tenants a 90-day notice before raising rent.
These measures are part of the Tenant Empowerment Package, which seeks to support renters across the state.
The bills passed a Senate committee and now head to the full Senate for a vote.
