Motorcycle Rider Dies After Crash, Run Over on I-75 in Detroit

A 41-year-old Detroit man has died after a crash on northbound I-75 near Schaefer Tuesday night.

The Detroit Regional Communication Center (DRCC) received calls about a motorcycle crash with a man lying motionless in the roadway. When troopers arrived, Detroit EMS confirmed the man was dead. He was identified on scene using a departmental fingerprint scanner.

Investigators determined a semi-truck was involved and that the motorcyclist had been struck multiple times by different vehicles. The semi-truck was no longer at the scene.

While troopers were investigating, the DRCC received a call from a 50-year-old semi-truck driver from Warren, who admitted he hit something on I-75 but left the scene because he was nervous. Metro North troopers are interviewing him.

The case remains under investigation, and a report will be sent to prosecutors for review.

“If you are involved in a traffic crash, stay on the scene,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Not only is it your legal responsibility, it is the right thing to do. Many drivers who are not at fault in a crash find themselves in trouble by driving away.”
