Michigan is witnessing a unique trend in the realm of real estate: more single women are homeowners compared to their male counterparts. Despite the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting that women’s median weekly earnings are just 83% of men’s, these financial disparities haven’t hindered their ability to own homes.
A recent analysis by LendingTree, utilizing the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, reveals a pattern across the nation, with Michigan standing out. The study shows that in 47 of the 50 states, single women living alone are more likely to own a home than single men in the same situation. This trend is particularly pronounced in Michigan, where the number of housing units owned and occupied by single women reaches 395,652, significantly outnumbering the 341,545 units owned by single men.
