Missing 82-year-old Ann Arbor man found alive after 2-day community search

A missing 82-year-old man has been found alive after a large community search led by the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Ralph Yang was last seen on the evening of June 23, 2025, after going for a walk near Pin Oak Dr. and White Oak Dr. He suffers from Parkinson’s disease and had not returned home, prompting concern for his safety.

On June 25, the department organized two community searches from Forsythe Middle School, drawing dozens of volunteers during both the 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. searches.

Just before 9 p.m. that evening, a local resident and their dog discovered Mr. Yang in a creek in the 2500 block of Newport Road. He was responsive and able to communicate with responders before being taken to University of Michigan Hospital for evaluation.

Officers were seen carrying Mr. Yang to safety.

“Chief Andre Anderson and the entire AAPD cannot thank the community enough for their efforts the past 48 hours. We had at least 60 volunteers at the 1:30pm search and more than 200 volunteers tonight to look for Mr. Yang. Today was a true testament to how strong our community is and how we look after each other. We also want to thank all the community members who shared our posts to get the word out and the other law enforcement agencies who assisted in the search these 48 hours,” Ann Arbor police said.
