Michigan residents on unemployment will soon see changes to unemployment benefits under a new law signed today.
The changes mark the first increase in unemployment benefits since 2011 and aim to provide more support for residents navigating job loss.
The new law extends the duration of unemployment benefits from 20 weeks to 26 weeks.
Additionally, the maximum weekly benefit will increase from $362 to $614, phased in over time.
These changes are expected to benefit approximately 88,335 Michigan residents
