Michigan new egg rule start in 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, nearly all eggs sold in Michigan must come from cage-free hens under a law that has been passed.

Big chain grocery stores shelf’s are nearly all completely out before the end of the year.

The requirement applies to businesses selling directly to consumers.

Cage-free environments must allow hens to roam freely and include enrichments like perches and dust-bathing areas.

The rule does not apply to liquid or cooked egg products, and businesses must confirm compliance in writing from suppliers. (News & information release only)
