Did you know that every Huron-Clinton Metropark offers free life jackets?
These life jackets are available for both adults and children and can be found at every beach and pool. The life jacket loaner stations have been in place for nearly five years.
Even strong swimmers should consider wearing a life jacket, especially in open water. Always supervise children near water, and designate a “water watcher” to keep a close eye on swimmers at all times.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. To help prevent these tragedies, Metroparks offers free swimming lessons for both children and adults. Visit www.metroparks.com/swim-lessons to find lessons near you.
Since 2021, more than 4,000 individuals in the community have received free swim lessons.
Metroparks also plans to increase the number of certified lifeguards and swim instructors in Southeast Michigan, with the goal of keeping Metroparks facilities and partner swim lesson sites fully staffed all season long by 2028.
