The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has confirmed the first two pediatric deaths associated with influenza for the 2024-2025 flu season.
The tragic losses involved children from Wayne and Genesee counties who contracted seasonal Influenza A (H1N1), according to a news release.
“We are heartbroken for the families who have experienced this loss,” said Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s chief medical executive
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), outpatient visits for influenza-like illness in Michigan are at their highest level in 15 years. Since the start of this flu season, nearly 10,000 flu-related hospitalizations have been reported statewide. Hospitalizations have increased steadily each week, with 2,586 reported in the week ending Feb. 1.
MDHHS is urging all Michigan residents aged six months and older to get 💉 as soon as possible.
