Metro Detroiters line up for Paczkis on Fat Tuesday

People are lined up outside New Palace Bakery early Tuesday morning, eager to get their hands on fresh Paczki on Fat Tuesday.

The line stretched around the building.

Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and marks the last chance to enjoy rich foods before Lent begins. In Polish tradition, people celebrate by eating Paczki, fried pastries filled with sweet fillings like fruit jam or custard.
