A new youth education center in Detroit has opened Monday with the help of a $1 million donation by former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly.
SAY Detroit Play Center is located at 19320 Van Dyke, near 7 Mile.
The facility expands SAY Play’s footprint by nearly 15,000 square feet, allowing the after-school center to add additional academic and enrichment programming to improve educational outcomes for hundreds of Detroit youth ages 8-18.
The center will feature six multi-purpose classrooms, a theatre, a workplace development space, learning labs, tutoring, mentoring, and more
Along with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, SAY Detroit founder Mitch Albom, the Staffords – who provided the initial $1 million gift toward the expansion – held ceremonial ribbon cutting today.
