Mary Sheffield and Solomon Kinloch to Face Off in Detroit Mayor’s Race This November

Voters across Detroit cast their ballots Tuesday to decide who will advance in the race for the city’s next mayor.

City Council President Mary Sheffield led the crowded field and will move on to the November general election. Solomon Kinloch Jr. is projected to secure the second spot, setting the stage for a head-to-head race this fall.

With 84% of the vote counted, Mary Sheffield is in the lead with 37,414 votes, making up 51.2% of the total. Solomon Kinloch Jr. is in second place with 12,813 votes, or 17.5%.

The primary featured nine candidates, including Saunteel Jenkins, James Craig, Fred Durhal III, and Todd Perkins.

With Sheffield and Kinloch advancing, Detroit voters will return to the polls in November to choose the city’s next mayor.
