A Detroit man accused of fatally stabbing two people and injuring two others at a pool party last month was arraigned today.
Prosecutors say this all started after 31-year-old Daiwan Hobson allegedly became angry after someone danced with his girlfriend, leading to an argument that escalated into violence.
According to the court arraignment, Hobson allegedly pulled out a knife he had been carrying throughout the party and stabbed four people. Two victims, 25-year-old Martisha Payne of Detroit and 31-year-old Jakirea Williams of Chesterfield Township, later died from their injuries. A 31-year-old man from Pontiac and a 40-year-old man from Detroit were also stabbed but survived.
During the arraignment, prosecutors argued for Hobson to remain jailed without bond, pointing to a video recording of the entire incident and his violent past. They noted he had been paroled in July 2025—just one month before the stabbing.
“This incident happened a month after he got out of jail,” the prosecutor told the court.
Hobson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.
The case stems from a violent night on Fleming Street near East Seven Mile and Conant. Authorities said a fight began in the backyard, spilled into the front yard, and ended with four people stabbed.
