Man who killed woman in Pontiac found dead after committing suicide, police say

Oakland County, Mich. – According to the Sheriff’s department, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 10 block of N. Eastway Drive in the City of Pontiac on January 22, 2020, at approximately 11:40pm for a call of shots fired with a possible gunshot victim.

The Sheriff’s department stated the complainant, who called into the Sheriff’s Operations Center, reported a female approached his home and appeared to be running from a male subject. At this time, the complainant heard gunshots and heard the female moaning outside of his residence.

The complainant observed the male leave the area in an unknown vehicle which had been parked in the street near his residence.

Deputies arrived to find a female victim with several gunshot wounds. Star EMS was requested, but due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, Deputies transported the victim in a patrol car to McLaren Oakland Hospital.

Upon arrival to the hospital, the female was pronounced deceased by the attending physician. The female was identified as Kaneisha Williams, a 32-year-old female resident of Waterford Township.

Detectives from the Pontiac Substation and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory responded to process the scene. Through their investigation, Detectives identified a possible suspect in the homicide, Reuben Tompkins, a 29-year-old resident of the City of Detroit.

Detectives were able to track the whereabouts of Tompkins to Mountain Brook, Alabama. Soon after, it was learned Tompkins had committed suicide and Detectives responded to Mountain Brook to gather additional evidence and information.

The firearm used in the suicide was recovered at the scene. The weapon was turned over to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory for ballistics testing. The testing confirmed the firearm used by Tompkins to commit suicide was the same weapon used in the murder of Kaneisha Williams.
