Man returns after robbing 3 people to kidnap woman and assault her, prosecutors say

A Detroit man is facing a long list of felony charges following a robbery, kidnapping, and sexual assault.

The three victims were walking near the closed Cooley High School at Lyndon and Robson around 3:30 a.m. last Sunday when a man pulled up in a car.

The suspect, armed with a rifle, robbed two of the victims of their belongings, according to authorities. Prosecutors say the victims and suspect had no prior connection.

The suspect left the scene, then returned, forced the 22-year-old female victim into his vehicle & told the men if she came with him they would get the belongings back.

She was driven to another location, sexually assaulted, and later brought back to the original area. She ran to get help after.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kevin Donta Lee, has been charged with 18 felonies, including:
• 5 counts of CSC – First Degree
• Kidnapping
• 2 counts of Armed Robbery and other charges.

Lee was arraigned and held without bond. During the hearing, prosecutors said Lee admitted to the robbery, kidnapping, and sexual assault. His defense attorney stated that Lee believes “there’s more to the story.”

According to state records, Lee has a documented history of violent offenses, including two armed robbery convictions from 2013. He was last discharged from parole in March 2023.
