Man has Rolex Stolen From wrist After Stranger Distracts Him with “Blessing”

Police are investigating an unusual larceny case after a man reported his $12,000 Rolex watch was stolen during an encounter at a gas station in Bloomfield Township.

The incident occurred on May 3, 2025, at the Mobil gas station located at 1501 S. Opdyke Rd. According to Bloomfield Township Police, the victim was pumping gas when a man driving a silver, newer-model hatchback or wagon pulled into the station.

The suspect approached the victim and handed him a $20 bill along with several pieces of fake jewelry, saying, “Jesus wants you to have this stuff,” police said.

After the suspect returned to his vehicle, the victim followed and attempted to give the items back. When the suspect refused to accept them, the victim reached through the open window of the car to return the items but was again turned away.

It wasn’t until later that the victim realized his gold Rolex watch was missing from his wrist.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a skinny to medium build and dark hair.

The case is being investigated by the Bloomfield Township Police Department’s Investigations Unit. Anyone with information is asked to call 248-433-7755.
