Westbound I-94 near 10 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores was shut down Thursday night following a fatal pedestrian crash.
Michigan State Police say the driver of a vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash and came to a stop on the left shoulder. We are told the driver exited the vehicle to pick up items/debris from the freeway.
Moments later, another driver lost control of their vehicle, veered off the roadway toward the left shoulder, and struck the pedestrian. The impact threw the pedestrian into the left lane, where he was hit by a second vehicle.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver who struck the pedestrian was arrested for suspected Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and lodged in jail. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and was released.
