Man Charged in Fiancée’s Murder After Shooting Himself to Stage Accident

Oakland County Sheriff’s

A 21-year-old man Oakland County man has been charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly fatally shot his fiancée earlier this week.

Michael Devon Webb, of Highland Township is accused of murdering 23-year-old Rachel Renee Wooten inside their home in the 200 block of Maple in Highland Township on April 15.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence after Webb called 911 and reported he had shot his fiancée and himself.

When deputies arrived, they found Wooten with a single gunshot wound to the neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Webb had a non-life-threatening injury, apparently caused by the same bullet. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Webb initially claimed the shooting was accidental and happened while he was cleaning his g.n, but investigators determined the evidence did not support that version of events.

Webb and Wooten lived together and shared a 6-month-old child, who was found unharmed in the home.

“My sister was murdered by her fiancé on April 15th, 2025. Just 6 months after she welcomed sweet baby Aspen into this world, her life was taken from her. Rachel was an amazing woman, devoted mother…She was also the best sissy in the entire world, my rock, and my best friend. Words cannot even begin to describe this tragedy and devastation,” the victims sister Heather wrote in a GoFundMe.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald announced the charges, which include first-degree murder.

Webb was arraigned in 52-1 District Court in Novi on Friday. He is being held without bond in the Oakland County Jail.
