Man charged after vigilante group catches him trying to meet 12-year-old in Oakland County

A man was arrested after he allegedly showed up to Oakland County in an attempt to meet a 12 year old girl, police said.

Holly officers were dispatched to a business where a citizen operated online predator group, located in Indiana called to report they have a subject at the business who is a target of one of their investigations and are questioning him, officials said in a news release.

Upon arrival, officers detained the individual identified as their target and interviewed the citizen investigators. They stated they met the man in online social media sites where their adult decoy posted pictures and an identity as a 12-year-old female, police said.

The male suspect made an introduction, and almost immediately began having graphic conversations with the decoy, sending extremely explicit pictures and videos of himself, police said.

They stated the suspect had agreed to meet the underage female, and was the person who suggested they meet at the Holly business.

The citizen investigators were able to provide evidence to the officers at the scene. Holly officers detained the suspect for questioning and seized his cellular phone. While detained, Holly investigators were able to recover evidence to show he was the person in the conversations as well as his intent to meet at the Holly location, and to go to another location to have s…x with the girl.

The man was arrested and lodged at the Oakland Jail. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued the multiple fleony charges on Daniel James Kring, age 35 of Holly Township.

Bond was set at $50,000.00 personal. (News & information release only)
