Man Arrested for Drunk Driving After Driving to Troy PD to Help Jailed Wife

A 43-year-old Troy man was arrested for operating while intoxicated after he drove to the Troy Police Department while allegedly under the influence.

The incident happened around 6:10 p.m. on July 23 at the department’s headquarters on Big Beaver Road. Police say the man came into the lobby to drop off medication for his wife, who was being held in lock-up.

Officers noted the man appeared unsteady and had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. After learning he had driven to the station, police had him perform several sobriety tests, which he reportedly failed.

A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol content was .162%, more than twice the legal limit. He was taken into custody and agreed to a chemical breath test, which returned results of .175% and .177%.

He was booked into the Troy Police lock-up and charged for Operating While Intoxicated.
