Man arrested after shooting ex-girlfriends new boyfriend

A man was arrested after he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in Eastpointe on Friday, police say.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. on 9 Mile near Gratiot

According to police, the male victim was currently in a relationship with suspects’ ex-girlfriend and the suspect was unhappy about it.

The suspect allegedly approached the victim wearing a wig, pink tight pants, pink shirt, and black jacket. “It was obvious that the suspect tried to disguise himself as a woman”, Eastpointe police said in a news release.

The suspect spoke with the victim for a short period of time. The suspect then produced a g.n and shot the victim in the chest. The suspect fled the scene on foot. The victim is expected to survive.

Through follow up investigation Eastpointe Detective Bureau and Special Investigation Unit were able to identify the suspect and his location. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence 17000 block of Albian St. in the city of Detroit.

Eastpointe Special Response Team with assistance from Detective Bureau executed the search warrant. While Officers were trying to gain entry to the house the suspect fired one round at them through the front door.

“Luckily, the bullet missed all Officers who were located on the front porch. Officers did not return the fire because they did not have a clear view of the suspect”, police said.

Officers took up defensive position and were able to negotiate with the suspect to surrender. The suspect and his new girlfriend were taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing. (News & information release only)
