A man was arrested after allegedly placing a fake bomb on his vehicle in an attempt to prevent it from being repossessed.
At approximately 9:05 AM, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 24000 block of Bradford Drive in Harrison Township following a report of a suspicious situation.
According to police, the suspect, a 45-year-old Harrison Township resident, placed a propane tank in the passenger seat of his four-door sedan, with electrical wiring running from the tank to the vehicle’s middle console. A second tank was attached to the driver’s side front wheel, with copper wire running underneath the car.
Signs warning that the vehicle would “expl*de” if touched were displayed on the windshield, authorities said.
Michigan State Police was called to the scene, where it was determined that the device was a hoax.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office has requested charges for “device representing or presented as explosive,” a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
No injuries were reported, and further investigation is underway.
