Lions Donate New Football Field for Detroit Youth

By Benicia Ciara, TMDN

The Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan’s location on Joy Road just scored big thanks to the Detroit Lions, who donated a brand-new football field dedicated to giving kids a safe, inspiring place to play.

The celebration was nothing short of a game day vibe — inflatables for students, free hot dogs and hamburgers fresh off the grill, and a ribbon-cutting with Lions cornerback Avonte Maddox, who not only helped unveil the field but also spent time interacting with aspiring future Lions.

The energy soared as Detroit Lions cheerleaders lit up the sidelines with their spirit, while players and cheerleaders from BGCSM’s 3C Youth Sports Coalition took the field for a lively scrimmage and cheer routine. The 3C Sports program focuses on Community, Culture, and Competition, ensuring young athletes gain more than just skills by intertwining a holistic sports experience.

With this new field, youth now have a vibrant & safe home turf for football, flag football, cheer practice, fitness, and community events.

The message was clear: Detroit’s next generation of athletes not only has a field to play on, but a future to believe in.
