Fire crews battled a massive blaze at the American House Senior Assisted Living facility in Southgate late Friday night, evacuating dozens of residents as heavy flames tore through the building.
The fire broke out around 10 p.m. at the facility on Allen Road near Dix-Toledo. Officers arrived to find heavy flames and smoke pouring from the structure and quickly began helping evacuate residents alongside firefighters from neighboring departments.
All residents have been safely accounted for. Several were taken to local hospitals for evaluation, while others were temporarily relocated to the Southgate Senior Center for shelter and assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
