A long-awaited $1 billion redevelopment project at Lakeside Mall has hit a major roadblock. The project, which promises to revitalize the area with mixed-use development—featuring retail, residential, and entertainment spaces—is now behind schedule due to a land dispute.
At the center of the delay is the former Sears parcel, owned by Lakeside Circle Holdings LLC, led by Mario Kiezi, a metro Detroit-based entrepreneur. Negotiations between the mall owner and Kiezi’s group have stalled, preventing the necessary consent to incorporate the parcel into the redevelopment plan.
The former Sears property is a critical piece of the project, and without an agreement, progress is coming to a halt.
The project envisions transforming the aging Lakeside Mall into a vibrant, multi-purpose district that features shopping, dining, housing, and public spaces.
