The iconic Lafayette Coney Island has once again temporarily closed its doors due to a rat infestation.
This marks the second shutdown for similar health code violations, as the restaurant faced similar issues back in 2022.
The City of Detroit’s Health Department confirmed the closure, stating that the decision was made after an inspection revealed several violations. Lafayette Coney Island voluntarily agreed to shut down while addressing the health concerns.
The restaurant will have to go through deep cleaning, repairing structural issues, and sealing all openings to the outdoors to prevent further infestations.
“We appreciate the cooperation of Lafayette Coney Island as we work together to safeguard the well-being of Detroit residents and visitors,” the health department said.
The restaurant will remain closed until all violations are corrected.
