Innocent driver dead after Warren police chase ends in crash

A police pursuit in Warren on Saturday night ended in a fatal crash at the intersection of 9 Mile and Van Dyke.

According to police, the chase began around 9:33 p.m. after officers spotted a black Chrysler 300 driving recklessly near Van Dyke and Miller. When they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled northbound on Van Dyke at high speed.

At the intersection of 9 Mile and Van Dyke, the Chrysler crashed into an uninvolved motorist’s vehicle and a second car. The suspect fled on foot but was caught by police.

Tragically, the driver of the uninvolved vehicle — a 71-year-old woman — was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. The occupants of the second vehicle were not seriously hurt.

The Warren Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is still investigating. The intersection will remain closed for several hours as crews continue their work.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
