I-75 closes after road worker struck by car

All lanes on I-75 are closed as police investigate a crash involving a road crew worker.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon on SB I-75 near Fort Road.

Police say a male worker on a moving road crew was setting a flare pattern between construction vehicles when he was struck by the driver of a Kia, causing him to go airborne.

He was rushed to the hospital with CPR in progress, where he was listed in very critical condition. The driver of the KIA was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by Michigan State Police.

“We want to remind drivers to move over when they see construction vehicles on the side or in the roadway working,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “The suspect who struck the worker stopped on the scene after the crash. After the investigation is completed an investigators report will be submitted to the prosecutors office.”

UPDATE: Freeway back open. The man has died.
