Here are candidates who are officially running to become Detroit’s next mayor

A new chapter is about to begin in Detroit, as nine people have officially filed to run for mayor in this year’s election.

With longtime Mayor Mike Duggan stepping aside to run for governor in 2026, the race is wide open.

The candidates are:
1. Mary Sheffield, Detroit City Council President
2. James Craig, former Detroit Police Chief
3. Saunteel Jenkins, former City Council President
4. Fred Durhal III, City Council Member
5. Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., pastor
6. Joel Haashim, businessman
7. Todd Perkins, attorney
8. Jonathan Barlow, entrepreneur
9. Dean Evans (no photo immediately found)
